Consider the center of the ear as the divider between the front and back of the hat.

Sections are in front of and behind the center of the ear. The front and back sections should be divided at center front and back of the hat.

If the hat doesn't fit within the charted guides, count the stitches and allocate 61.36% to the front, and 38.64% to the back .

Percent X number of stitches will give you the front and back. For earflaps, using center point divide the number of stitches needed for earflap, divide by 2, and evenly add them on add them on both sides of the center. Work 6 rows slipping first stitch on every row. Decrease one each side of next rows until yhou have 3 stitches. Work a cord of 12" in length.
