Fruity Trudy
This is Fruity Trudy who represents women from the Palenquera community. These are descendants of former African slaves who revolted and freed themselves from their Spanish masters in Cartagena, Colombia. Today they sell fruit and photo ops to tourists and locals in Cartagena support themselves and their community.

They will happily sell the whole fruit or cut a piece of of one with for you with the knife they carry in their fruit bowls.

Aprons with deep pockets keep their money safe while they sell their fruit on the streets where tourists gather.

Inspiration for Fruity Trudy
These pictures inspired Fruity Trudy's costume.

The picture of the fruit vendor above left was the inspiration for the character doll who is named Fruity Trudy. We took this picture while on tour of the city of Cartagena.
